10th May 2000
I would like to start this newsletter by welcoming our 4 new "Tweenies"
(our name for a girl before she is enrolled as a Brownie), and to say goodbye to
Puja and Meera as they move up to our very active Guide Unit.
Brownie Revels - Saturday 20th May
As some of you may remember, this event was previously arranged for last
September but it had to be postponed due to the weather. We hope that the
weather will be good for us this time! If the weather is not good on the day we
have made alternative plans, so please come to the venue as indicated and I will
tell you what has been arranged.
For those of you who are new, the above event is when we meet up with the
other 4 Brownie packs in the South Wallington District and take part in a
competition to win the Brownie Shield. We also sing and play games together.
Tawny Owl and I have arranged the event for the district and it will be based
locally.
We will meet at 10.50 a.m. (there will be over 100 Brownies present so please
ensure that you bring your daughter to me. You will need to collect your
daughter from me at the same place at 4.00 p.m.
Each Brownie will need to:
- wear uniform and cap if possible. Sashes are not required;
- wear comfortable shoes or trainers as we will be walking around a
lot;
- bring, in a backpack if possible,
a) a packed lunch with 2 cartons (not bottles) of drink
b) a waterproof jacket
c) a plastic carrier bag (to sit on while we have lunch)
Please complete the attached consent form and return it to me either next
Wednesday or on the day itself.
Guide Pantomime
For those of you who attended this very enjoyable event, Our Guide Guider has
asked me to thank you for your support. Our Guide Unit made a profit of
30.
Guide Jumble Sale - Saturday 10th June
Our Guide Unit are holding a jumble sale on the above date at our usual
meeting place. The event will take place in the morning. If anyone has any
jumble, please let me know or bring it along to Brownies on Wednesday 7th June
or on the day itself.
Combined Meeting with our Guide Unit - Friday 9th June
We will have our normal Brownie meeting on 7th June but we have all been
invited along to our Guide Unit meeting.
Place: Same place as Brownies.)
Time: 7pm - 9pm (8.15pm for younger Brownies)
We have thought that the younger Brownies (i.e. 7 & 8 years old) could be
collected a little earlier at around 8.15pm whilst the older Brownies could stay
until the end of the normal meeting time. Our plans for this meeting include a
traditional campfire, singing and maybe even some cooking. We do all enjoy
meeting together, and it gives the Brownies some idea of Guide meetings and
helps them to get to know our Guide Leaders at the same time.
Visit to the Guide Heritage Centre - Saturday 8th July
We have arranged to take the Brownies to the Guide Heritage Centre on the
above date. We plan to catch the train from Wallington to Victoria, from where
it is just a short walk to the Guide Heritage Centre. The tour we have booked
will start at 11.00am and should be very interesting. There is also a shop at
the Guide Headquarters. After our visit we plan to walk to Buckingham Palace and
then on the St James' Park where we will stop for an ice cream! Both of these
are a very short distance from the Guide Headquarters and Heritage Centre. We
will then return to Victoria where we will catch a train back to Wallington.
Further details concerning cost, times and consent forms will follow in the near
future.
Brownie Holiday Club Wednesday and Thursday, 30th & 31st August
I have booked these two days for our annual Brownie Holiday Club. Please
note that this is one week later than previous years.
